Breakfast Appetizers For Your Pup

Jan 29, 2021 | Pets, Treat Recipes

This is a re-post:  I was cutting up vegetables for food prep and was thinking how much Jake And Maggie love baby carrots.  It reminded me of this Breakfast Appetizer tested and approved by these two adorable labs!  So I thought I’d post again for you.

On a different note…I will be posting once a month now instead of every week.  I’m taking some time to focus on new projects and my fourth cookbook which will include some recipes from my three Sit, Stay, Eat cookbooks, as well as, new recipes along with old recipes handed down through the families.

Happy “Friday Treats Friday”. Happy Friday everyone!  This Breakfast Appetizer has filled my kitchen will a delicious aroma of sweet cinnamon and apples and I’m so glad I made it.  I had something totally different in mind to make but decided on this instead and the dogs loved it.  I wasn’t quite sure what to call it but putting it together and layering the ingredients, it reminds me of an appetizer you would make for a party.  I have a morning routine that I started when Jake and Maggie were puppies.  We get up at 6:00 am, I let them out, we come back in, I clean them off, feed them and while they are eating their breakfast, I make coffee.  While the coffee is being made and they finish eating, I give their vitamins and coconut oil, we “play tricks” and do all of their commands and then I put them in their “place” command while I drink my coffee.  When I’m done with my coffee, I give them a special treat for being good which either consists of a homemade treat I have made or a dental chew from an order I have placed from Get Naked on Chewy.com.  So this is where the name of these treats came from!  They look like an appetizer and consist of all the ingredients that I’ve given Jake and Maggie at one time or another at breakfast!

Ingredients:

1 Sweet potato
1 Honey crispy apple
Baby carrots
Ginger
Cinnamon
Shredded Cheese

Instructions:

This Breakfast Appetizer is a bit bland to taste but incredibly easy to make.  Slice 1 large honey crisp apple into slivers, microwave 1 large sweet potato for four minutes and use a melon ball to scoop large melon balls for each apple slice, take 1 baby carrot for each apple slice, slice it into two slivers and lay cross way on apple, sprinkle with shredded cheese, cinnamon, and ginger.  Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.  The baby carrots will look a bit white after cooking and the ginger will make them a bit whiter.
If your pup loves applies, try another sliced apple treat of mine (HERE).  It is super fun, easy, and healthy to make!

I’ve talked about using cinnamon before which is a natural and healthy ingredient but never ginger.  Can dogs eat ginger?  Yes they can!  Here are 7 reasons ginger is good for dogs.

#1 Nausea
#2 Bloat
#3 Flatulence
#4 Arthritis
#5 Cancer
#6 Heartworm
#7 Ginger also helps your sweet pup who gets car or motion sickness.

Cautions:

Avoid ginger if your dog will be having surgery soon or if they are pregnant or have anemia, as ginger can thin the blood. It can also lower blood sugar and blood pressure, so it’s best to speak to your vet before giving ginger to a dog with diabetes or any kind of heart condition. As always, it’s also best to consult your vet first if your dog is on medications or suffering from any health conditions.
