Celebrating National Mutt Day

Dec 1, 2019 | Charity, Pets, Products

Happy December 2nd everyone!!!  Can you believe it’s December already and Christmas will be here before we know it!!  It is also NATIONAL MUTT DAY.  Let’s celebrate together!!  I’m thinking I want to put out a post every day in the month of December…yep, that includes weekends to!  Are you guys ok with that?  I have fun pictures of the dogs, lots of content, home decor, recipes, and a few DIYs.  Plus I’ll be sharing my holiday tablescapes with you as well.  We always cook Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and I can’t wait to share all of that with you.  Our tree is up and the house is looking festive.  I’m also going to be including some inspirational quotes along the way that have inspired me for one reason or another or that I thought was funny!  Thomas and I donate throughout the year to different organizations and we always make a stop at the local animal shelter in December to drop off homemade sweets for the staff and to bring the shelter animals gifts of food, blankets, beds, treats, collars, and leashes.  Help me spread the word and celebrate National Mutt Day.

Today is National Mutt Day

“In every heart, there is a hole.  In every shelter, there is love in which to fill it.” – Colleen Paige

National Mutt Day, also known as National Mixed Breed Dog Day, was created in 2005 by Celebrity Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Welfare Advocate, Colleen Paige and is celebrated on both July 31st and December 2nd. National Mutt Day is all about embracing, saving and celebrating mixed breed dogs. The biggest percentage of dogs abandoned and euthanized is due to the constant over-breeding and public desire of designer dogs and pure bred puppies that are sold to pet stores supplied by puppy mills that often produce ill and horribly neglected animals.

This special day was created to be celebrated on two dates per year, to raise awareness of the plight of mixed breed dogs in shelters around the nation, as approximately 80% of dogs in shelters are mixed breeds. Most pure breeds that end up in the shelter are generally rescued quickly by either the public wanting a “less expensive” pure bred dog or by a pure breed rescue. The day’s mission is to educate the public about the sea of mixed breed dogs that desperately await new homes and to celebrate the amazing characteristics that the mix of breeds creates in each individual dog.
