Three Ways Cats Communicate

Aug 30, 2020 | Pet Health, Pets

Happy Monday everyone!  Can you believe it’s the end of August!!! I wanted to enjoy the last weekend of August but instead I was in the kitchen all weekend baking and cooking for my cookbook.  You guys, I made some delicious dishes and can’t wait to share them with you.  It’s been a bit difficult because my double ovens broke last week so I shlepped everything over to my sisters house to finish the “sweets” category!  As I was cooking up a storm, I had 3 precious little faces watching me the whole time.  I’ve talked before on the blog about Binky, Wilbur, and Piggy and got some cute photos of Wilbur sitting quietly and relaxing in one of the boxes I brought over.  This got me thinking about stress levels of cats because these three are the most laid back cats I have ever seen. I wasn’t home five minutes and a commercial advertising FELIWAY came on.

Cats communicate through natural messages released in the air. FELIWAY mimics these natural feline messages or ’’happy messages’’ and helps cats feel comfortable and secure to help prevent urine spraying, scratching, or hiding.  Does your cat scratch, pee outside the litter box, fight with other cats, over-groom, or hide?  FELIWAY’s diffusers and spray can help.

There are 3 kinds of feline messages cats give:

“Happy Messages”
When comfortable and happy, cats mark their territory as familiar by rubbing their face against corners, furniture, people, or other cats at home. They leave an odorless message known as a feline facial pheromone. When present in the environment, these “happy messages” provide comfort and security to cats.  FELIWAY Classic Diffuser can help – https://www.feliway.com/us/Products/FELIWAY-CLASSIC-Diffuser

“Harmony Messages”
Mother cats communicate with her kittens through natural messages released into the air. These “harmony messages” are called cat appeasing pheromones. They help maintain social bonds between cats of all ages.  FELIWAY MultiCat Diffuser can help – https://www.feliway.com/us/Products/FELIWAY-MultiCat-Diffuser

“Territory Messages”
Cats communicate with other cats through natural messages left in their territory. When they scratch an object in their territory they leave “territory messages”. This provides a visual message (scratch marks) and the “territory message” says that “this is mine”.  FELIWAY Feliscratch spray can help – https://www.feliway.com/us/Products/feliscratch-by-feliway
