Airport Therapy Dog Programs

Airport Therapy Dog Programs

It’s been a minute since I posted about Jake and Maggie passing their Canine Good Citizenship training (here and here) all because I wanted them to participate in the PitPaws program at the Pittsburgh International Airport.  I want them both to become Therapy Dogs and am excited about taking them into schools to meet with children as well as volunteering at other establishments.  When I called Alise, PitPaws Organizer, she explained in detail the length of which I would have to go in order to...

Book Review – The Wife Between Us

Book Review – The Wife Between Us

As promised, I wanted to give you a full book review on "The Wife Between Us".  This wonderful book is a Novel by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen that I purchased via on-line at Barnes and Noble.  This book was soooooo good!  I love to read and the title caught my attention but was hesitant about making the purchase because I had never read anything from these authors before.  But after reading all the great reviews, I took a chance and it did not disappoint.   When we are done with our day...

20 Ways to photograph a black dog

20 Ways to photograph a black dog

I can't tell you how many pictures I've taken of Maggie only to delete them because they didn't turn out right.  I don't have a problem with Jake. He is very photogenic and takes better pictures and quite possibly because he is chocolate and not solid black.  I am still learning my way around my new camera but I've done some research to help me with taking better pictures of sweet Maggie Rose.  Whether you have a black dog or cat, it takes practice.  Here are a few suggestions to follow for...

Adopt a shelter dog today!

Adopt a shelter dog today!

Hello! My name is Lumley! I am an extra, super, duper special pup. The staff here have become my family; they love me, they protect me, and they give me hope. I am dashingly handsome, but sometimes that's all anyone sees: my looks. They don't know that I have a lot of needs, some of them different than other dogs'. I love to be active, but I could easily be a couch potato too. I am head over heels for toys! Stuffed ones, squeaky ones, balls, ropes; the list is endless. Playtime and playing...

Pig Ears and Salmonella Poisoning

Pig Ears and Salmonella Poisoning

I follow a blog called Proud Dog Mom and recently received a post about Pig Ear Dog Treats Making Humans Sick.  The FDA is investigating and urging all pet owners to stop buying and feeding their pets the pig ears and urging retailers to stop selling them.  The CDC is now reporting 127 cases of human infection with Salmonella — 26 people have been hospitalized. Of the illnesses, 24 (that’s 21%) are among children younger than 5 years old. No deaths have been reported at this time. Tips for pet...

Horse Ownership

Horse Ownership

I typically blog about dog related topics but today I want to give you some insight into the equestrian world.  One of my fondest memories from my childhood was when my parents bought me my first horse.  We found Sparky and so my love for horses began.  My father built a barn and fenced in acreage to adopt Sparky and a horse for my sister named Shamrock.  We later started working on a farm and adopted 2 baby cows named JR and Red.  They all passed away of old age but our love for these animals...

Sweet Sausage Pasta

Sweet Sausage Pasta

As I was saying in my last post, Thomas and I were having a lazy weekend here in Missouri and I didn't feel like going out.  The weather was cold, rainy, and snuggling under a nice warm blanket sounded so much better than being cold and wet.  So what did we do about dinner????  We had leftover ingredients from the  Margharita Pizza recipe, some sweet sausage in the frig and a box of pasta which is a staple in our house so I set out to create another fast and easy meal.  Here it is!  Hope you...

Egg Rolls

Egg Rolls

So I was out and about today running errands and planned my last stop to be Panera Bread. Just as I was about to make my left turn towards their direction, I remembered I had ingredients to make egg rolls.  It was 11:30 and I was starving, so I quickly changed lanes and headed home.  Here is my recipe of quick and easy egg rolls.  I'll give you the recipe but as you know, I don't always measure when I'm cooking.  This can be made as a side with any Chinese meal but I chose to just eat them...
