Dog Friendly Nashville and Franklin, TN

Jun 6, 2023 | Life, Travel

Happy Wednesday everyone!  We just got back from our trip to Dog Friendly Nashville and Dog Friendly Franklin, TN.  Nashville is dog friendly too but in my personal opinion, there is more to do in Franklin when you are traveling with your pup.  Jake And Maggie participated in the NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association) trade show where Eaton Corporation had a booth and the pups brought lots of people over for pets and doggie kisses.  They were styling with their new vacation bows on and loved all the attention.  Saturday morning we checked into the Harpoth Hotel in Franklin and got a beautiful room with a balcony.  The pups get so excited when we check into the rooms and they loved watching the tourists from our balcony.  We were lucky to get this hotel over Memorial Day weekend in Franklin.  The hotel was beautiful and had a large library in the lobby diagonal from the bar.  Mr. TAL got us drinks from the bar while the dogs relaxed in the library and were on lookout for him to come back.  We made the 8 hour trip home on Thursday which gave us a long weekend to relax.  Read on for all the details on our dog friendly vacation!  I broke down the trip with links and pictures from our trip.

Mural's in Nashville

Nashville has many beautiful murals but this one was my favorite.

Renaissance Hotel in Nashville
The Renaissance is dog friendly and even allowed Jake And Maggie to enjoy dinner with us at The Bridge Bar in the hotel.  The lobby is dog friendly as well as the rooms but there is very limited space for a pet relief area so keep that in mind.  The hotel is a block away from Broadway.  We had the burger and chicken quesadilla and both were delicious.  The bartender and waitress were so sweet to Jake And Maggie and gave them lots of attention.

NECA Trade Show and Convention

I dressed up Jake And Maggie and brought them to the trade show on Wednesday and Thursday night.  All the attention they received wore them out.  They slept great in the hotel but were up at 6:00 am every day so needless to say, I didn’t get to sleep in on my vacation :-).

Cooter's Museum

Are you a fan of Dukes of Hazard?  Do you remember Cooter?  He and his wife opened Cooter’s Museum and it’s dog friendly.  This is a museum and gift store in one.  And if you are looking for a t-shirt or sweatshirt to take home, you can find one here.  This building has three businesses which include Cooter’s Museum, a souvenir shop, and a restaurant.  It’s about 30 minutes away from downtown Nashville.

Hattie B's Chicken

Love fried chicken?  We took Jake And Maggie to an historic landmark in Nashville called Hattie B’s for chicken and fries.  They have a dog friendly patio outside.  You go in, place your order and they bring it to your table.

Franklin, TN

Franklin is one of my favorite places to vacation.  It’s dog friendly, romantic, historic, clean, accessible to everything, and the people are so friendly.  It’s my happy place :-).  It’s a place you can go to and feel safe if you are traveling alone, enjoying a family outing, or a romantic trip with your significant other.  Thomas took me here six years ago and I fell in love.

Harpoth Hotel

The Harpoth Hotel is right in downtown Franklin and is in walking distance of coffee shops, antique stores, restaurants and shops.  It is clean, spacious, the hotel staff is very friendly, and in a great location if you are traveling alone.  There is a great coffee shop on one end and the 1977 restaurant on the other.  Both have patios that are dog friendly.

Triple Crown Bakery

We happened to come across this little gem on one of our morning walks with the dogs.  The Triple Crown  Bakery is adorable with its dog friendly front yard and porch while the inside is a throw back to the victorian era.  We got their cinnamon rolls with cream cheese and oh my goodness!!

Culaccino Italian Restaurant

Culaccino Italian Restaurant was both quaint and delicious.  The waiter was fantastic, so friendly to the dogs, and the food was delicious.  We ordered the gnocchi with marinara sauce and the lemon, blackberry, basil infused pie with vanilla and blackberry ice cream.  They brought out fresh bread with goat cheese and olive oil dipping sauce.  Yummmmmm!

The Park At Harlinsdale Farm

The Park At Harlinsdale Farm is a beautiful farm that was once home to Midnight Sun. Harlinsdale Farm has been called the most significant historic farm associated with the modern Tennessee Walking Horse industry. In 1933, W.W. Harlin established the farm on the northern outskirts of great renown in the fledging Tennessee Walking Horse Industry. As famous as the farm itself is its prize stallion Midnight Sun. This famous horse became the first repeat World Grand Champion. The success of Midnight Sun in the ring and as a sire has never been matched by any other Tennessee Walking Horse. Even today, most champion Walking Horses trace their lineage to Midnight Sun.  It is now a park and dog park for people to come and enjoy.  You can also see the burial site of Midnight Sun.  We picked up food from Guy Feretti’s 55 South restaurant and enjoyed a picnic with the pups.

Shopping in downtown Franklin, TN / Hester and Cook

Downtown Franklin has many shops to enjoy and many of them allow dogs.  I walked into Hester and Cook and met the sweetest sales association.  Renee was awesome at giving me all the shopping details of Franklin but Hester and Cook was one of my favorite stores.  If you can see by the photos, it carried many dinnerware patterns, table decor, and stationary.  And they are dog friendly!!!!

Paddle Dogs

We found Paddle Dogs but never got a chance to actually check it out.  I was able to get a picture of the sun setting over the lake and it was beautiful.  This is a great place to take your dog, enjoy a walk, time on the water, listen to some music and grab something to eat.  We drove through the neighborhood which was beautiful.   This area is connected to the Harpeth River.

Belle Meade Historic Site and Winery

The Belle Meade Plantation is a gorgeous property full of history.  The grounds are dog friendly so we bought a grounds pass and enjoyed an afternoon with Jake And Maggie.  They have a restaurant and winery so we sat outside under a large Magnolia tree and drank wine and ate chocolate/caramel turtle candies while the dogs rested.

I hope you enjoyed the blog.  I apologize for it being so long but we did do a good bit in a short period of time.  We were mindful of giving the dogs breaks with stops back at our house rental, sitting on park benches, and walking in the morning and evening as the middle of the day was very hot.  The temps got into the 90s with sunny skies and a light breeze.  What I loved the most was being able to walk out of our hotel room and walking around town in the morning.

Other dog friendly places to visit near Nashville and Franklin but did not have time to see:
Johnny Cash Museum (Mr. TAL and I did this on our first trip to Nashville and it is a great place to visit)
Marcella Vivrette Park
Winstead Hill Park
Centennial Park
Parthenon
Bicentennial Capital Mall State Park
Harpeth River State Park
Historic Homes of Hincheyville (self guided walking tour)
