Pumpkin Puree, Peanut Butter Dog Treats

I’ve been talking about making more homemade treats for Jake and Maggie for awhile now and I decided today was the day. The alarm went off at 6:00 am this morning and the first thing I thought about was how I had to get ready and go to the store to buy the ingredients. When Jake and Maggie see me getting ready, they know the routine and get excited because they know they are going bye byes! Off to Kroger we went! First I got my coffee at Starbuck’s and then I picked up the ingredients. I also bought organic chicken breast and have been dehydrating cut strips for hours now. We will be using these chicken strips as their reward in training this weekend! If you like the idea of using a dehydrator, check out my post “Are sweet potatoes a “yes” or a “no” for another dog treat recipe!
This was a recipe that I found so long ago that I can’t remember how I got it but I doubled it tonight. It made 44 balls that are sitting in the refrigerator right now. I’m going to wait until tomorrow so this can be Jake and Maggie’s breakfast treat. We have a routine which is to go outside first, eat their breakfast of Purina Shredded Chicken and Rice topped with Stella and Chewy Meal Mixers, drink some fresh water, relax for about 10 minutes while I make coffee and English muffins for Thomas (daddy) and me and then the pups get a spoon full of Coconut Oil with a Vitamin C pill. Then it’s back to them relaxing or playing; whatever their little hearts desire. Tomorrow they will get their extra special treat. Everything is organic and the oats are Quick Oats 100% Whole Grain.
I have some exciting changes for the blog that I’ve been working on and can’t wait to share them with everyone! Stay tuned for updates and as always, feel free to chat with me on any ideas or questions you may have!

INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 3 cups old fashioned oats, divided
DIRECTIONS:
- Beat pumpkin puree, peanut butter and milk with a mixer on medium-high until well combined. Gradually add 2 1/2 cups old fashioned oats at low speed, beating just until incorporated.
- Using a small cookie scoop, roll the mixture into 1 1/4-to-1 1/2-inch balls, forming about 20. Dredge balls in remaining 1/2 cup old fashioned oats, pressing to coat. (I used A Tablespoon for this which worked out fine). If the mixture feels to soft to form into balls, add more oats to your liking.
- Cover and place in the refrigerator until firm, about 1 hour.
