Is Valentine’s Day Toxic To Your Pet?

Feb 15, 2021 | Pet Health, Pets

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend.  Valentine’s Day has never been one of my favorite holidays but I since the pups came along, I really enjoy getting them a gift or two.  This year, I was able to kill two birds with one stone and get all of us done with a few simple clicks at Puppy Paws Coffee Company!  I got these adorable chocolate covered strawberry toys for the dogs, coffee and tea for Thomas and me, one of their newly designed mugs, and my friends at Puppy Paws Coffee sent over some dog treats for the pups!

As I sit here, the living room floor is a mess from the dogs thoroughly enjoying their new toys and each fighting over who gets the least chewed up strawberry.  I’m keeping a careful eye on that little squeaker they love to attack so much. Valentine’s Day is becoming more and more popular for us and our furry friends so I put together a list of things to consider if your pet isn’t acting his normal self after Valentine’s Day.  We all know they love to get into new and exciting things which can cause some stomach upset or a trip to the vet!

If your pet isn’t acting his normal happy self and you think he has ingested any of these items, take him to a vet immediately.

If you have bought your pet a dog toy and think this may be the culprit, check the material label.  I found this very informative website on the 8 toxic materials found in pet products – https://www.rover.com/blog/toxic-pet-toys-beds-safety-guide/

When you have pets, it is always important to have a safety plan and be mindful of what products you have laying around the house whether it be a holiday or not.  Our pets are curious and they love new, shiny things to play with.  In this list, I would have never thought of love letters or fancy paper but it can get balled up and caught in their little throats.  The ink can bleed from the paper causing them to be sick.  Those fancy papers are sometimes thick and once ingested can cause a blockage.  Candles are beautiful and make the room glow but cats are drawn to the light and their whiskers can get burned.  The wax can drip and if stepped in can cause burning on paws and skin.

"Dream It, Believe it, Achieve It"

I love this saying; so inspiring and motivating!  I got this decorative tabletop decor from a friend for Christmas and it sits on my desk so I can see it every morning.  This is what Puppy Paws Coffee Company did.  They had a vision with their coffee company and they are achieving it!
