The Perfect Valentine’s Day Table For Four

Feb 10, 2023 | Maggie Lane Designs, Tablescapes, Valentine's Day

Happy Monday everyone!  Happy Valentine’s Week!  The Perfect Valentine’s Day Table For Four is a combination of reds, pinks, whites, blacks and has something sweet and something salty to enjoy!  There is no shortage of towels, napkins, toothpicks, flowers, and a special drink made with cotton candy.  I apologize for not getting this out last Wednesday but I was in Columbus, OH for a few days (more on that in another post).  I will resume my regular posting schedule this Wednesday with some new updates and a special candle offer.  Stay tuned :-).

I know you are surprised but I did not buy anything new for this table this year :-). I’ve had these items for a few years now and decided on displaying it all together in one tablescape.  What do you think?  Is it too busy for your tastes?  I’ve been told my tables are a “bit much” but that’s ok.  I find enjoyment in creating them for you and if you can get ideas and find some inspiration, I think that is awesome!

Adding live flowers to your table:

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to create a table.  Sometimes finding items for my tables takes me years and sometimes just adding a bouquet of fresh flowers can make all the difference.  These flowers were bought at Kroger for $12.  I used a small dip bowl, cut the stems off and arranged them on top of this cake plate.  Once the table is dismantled and put away, I can still enjoy my flowers for at least a few more days. Adding potted plants, vegetables, fruit, berries, flowers, etc can liven up a centerpiece or a table.

Cotton Candy Spritzers:

Again, I wanted something simple and cost effective but looked great on the table.  This is an unexpected treat for your guests as well.  I combined 4 cups of cranberry juice and 4 cups of ginger ale together, poured into these glasses from Home Goods and topped with a heaping mound of cotton candy.  The cotton candy falls into the drink and dissolves making it extra sweet.  If you want to liven things up, add your favorite sweet wine like a Moscato (which is my favorite).

Dips:

These dips were super easy to make.  I love making dips and love when they are not only easy but delicious.  I found these packets of Buffalo Wing Dip Mix and Garden Medley Dip Mix from Country Home Creations and all I had to do was add sour cream, mayonnaise and serve.

Appetizers and Desserts:

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know that I love salty and sweet.  I love making appetizers and desserts and what better way to share them than to incorporate them into your table.  By that I mean…make them match your decor!  Add height by placing a dish upside down and placing your cupcake on it like I did here.  The red sprinkles match the heart shaped dishes I found at Home Goods a few years ago.  If you buy dishes that come in 3’s, incorporate them into your table by using them as dip bowls.  I found these at Home Goods and were perfect for the two dips I made.  These heart shaped dishes from Home Goods came in 3s; small, medium, and large and were perfect for what I used them for.  I bought strawberry cupcakes, cherry pie, and cheese strudel at Kroger which were a perfect combo for my Valentine’s Day table!

Towels, Candles, and dishes:

I always say you can never have enough napkins on the table.  I found these adorable cloth napkins at TJMaxx a few years ago and placed them in an “L” shaped pattern with one on the top of the dishes and one on the side.  Sometimes decorative towels will come two in a pack and be a different pattern.  Why not use them both?  Right!  The charger plate came from Amazon, animal print dishes from Walmart, and heart dishes from Kirklands.  I used two different style candle holders and candles.  The red glass are antiques from Mr. TAL’s family and the black are from Kirklands.  Don’t be afraid to mix and match.  As long as you stay in the same color family, you are safe.

Dollar General:

I mentioned earlier that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on your table.  Go to the dollar store and find some cute holiday items like these confetti hearts and crystal stems.  All together, I spent $1.49 on a packet of confetti for the table and $4.00 on the crystal heart stems that I added to each place setting.

More ideas for this table:

I could have added greenery to this table with hearts and ribbon added.  I could have displayed some of my own soy candles in my new matte black tins (which I’ll be talking about later), or I could have added a round 3 layer cake on a beautiful cake stand for the middle.  An edible centerpiece is always fun.  And something that I keep forgetting to add….silverware!  :-). Yes, I forgot the silverware again.  I wanted to put out my gold silverware but was rushing to take these photos before the sun went down.  I also think that added a beautiful green wreath to the back of each chair would have looked so pretty.  Tied in beautiful ribbon would have made this whole table look very Valentine’s Day :-). These adorable tea cups are perfect for any table.  A fun way to use them would be to have a tea party with a tea pot at each cup with a selection of tea for your guests to choose from!  I hope you enjoyed this post.  Got any fresh ideas for me to try next, send them my way.  I love getting questions, comments, and suggestions.

Wow I don’t know how I missed this one but I always love any that include red as the theme. I love the charger plates and the way you did the cloths beside and above the place setting. I would have never thought to do that. That’s where your creativity shines and Bobbi Jo that food spread is to die for. You’re making me sooooo hungry! Great job! ❤️
