What Spring Weather Will Reveal About Your Home

Apr 8, 2025 | Garden, Maggie Lane Designs, Tips and Tricks

Happy Wednesday, everyone!  What Spring Weather Will Reveal About Your Home.  Spring weather can be quite the revealing element! After weathering the winter out, with all the cold, rain, and dryness it brings, blooming into spring will highlight everything wrong with your home.

And that’s the kind of thing you should pay attention to. When it gets lighter and warmer outside, make sure you take an objective look over your home and see where the trouble could be starting.  From your curb appeal to your basement to your home’s roof, check it for the signs we’ve listed below.

If There’s Mold Growing

The spring season is much milder and drier than the winter, but there’s still a lot of moisture in the air.  With the temperature warming up and the humidity starting to hike, mold growth can be rife.

Mold isn’t always obvious, but the better the lighting level and the more moisture in the air, the more signs will be present. Wet walls and condensation, for example, or a musty smell you’ve woken up to one day.  If you notice things like these, make sure you increase air flow and look for darker or ‘bubbly’ patches on your walls.

Where The Damaged Roofing Is

More sun means more opportunities to see the roof in its entirety, even from street level. Because of that, you’ll spot damaged roofing without looking for it – it’ll stick out like a sore thumb! And considering roofing is great heat insulation, you’ll need a healthy one for the season ahead.

As such, if you notice more than one spot of damage, whether some material is missing, looks ripped and weathered, etc., call a roofing contractor in for a fix-up job.  A roof is hard to work on by yourself, even when you’re a DIY expert, and it’s usually best to ask a professional just to be safe.

If Your Home Will Get Too Hot During Summer

Spring sunshine is a tester. Getting a bit more sun than you’ve been used to for the past 4 to 6 months will highlight where the heat traps are in your home. No matter the direction your home faces or how much sun exposure it’s supposed to get, make sure you pay attention over the next couple of weeks.

Where do the heat spots live in your house?  Or in your garden? If you have dogs, you’ll need to be careful about the outdoor sun exposure they’ll get.  Whether this means putting up better coverage inside and out or ensuring your AC system has enough venting into that room, now’s your chance to get all these jobs done.

Spring weather has a lot to say about your home! Make sure you’re listening to it and act on what it reveals. You want to be sure your home has time to recover from winter and be ready for the summer!
