How To Create A Christmas Wreath
We got our first big snowfall today…well, it was like an inch but it was pretty!! Waking up to snow falling, the tree on, and a hot cup of coffee in hand…that’s a relaxing morning :-). I went shopping with my sister today and as we backed out of the driveway, I looked at my cute little front porch that I just decorated and thought…what a fun post to do for tomorrow! I bought the wreath and ribbon at Hobby Lobby for 50% off each, found flowers at Walmart and put it together. I picked up Lanterns at Home Goods and Walmart and filled them with ornaments and bows! I got my “D” ornament at Kirklands for 30% off. Isn’t it so cute????!!!

The key to this wreath was that I was starting with a flocked beaded wreath which was half the battle already accomplished. I wanted something simple but that would pop with my house colors and show up on a dark mahogany door. And if you haven’t already noticed, my favorite color is red plus I love the traditional red Christmas colors! I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on flowers because that wreath will get direct weather 24/7 so Walmart was my go to for Christmas flowers. I chose:
- 3 white magnolia bushes from Walmart
- 3 red poinsettia bushes from Walmart
- 1 role of polka dot and velvet ribbon from Hobby Lobby
I alternated the colors and literally shoved the flowers inside the wreath wrapping the stems around the wire backing of the wreath. Then I just spread the flowers out to my liking. I don’t like a bunch of flowers just stuck in one spot. They need blended and look like they are adding dimension vs being flat against the wreath.
I made the bow by first making one loop, twisting it, and then 5 loops on each side, tied the bow with a pipe cleaner and twisted it to secure the bow. Then I spread out the loops to my liking and put on the wreath. I like to leave at least 3 to 6 inches on each side so I can blend into the wreath or leave it hanging for a more whimsical look. As for the lanterns, I chose to just add cheaper bulbs and snow flakes from Walmart and ribbon from Hobby Lobby. Again they will get direct weather so keeping it simple is what I needed to do. There are outlets on each side of the door to plug in lights so maybe next year I will get really crazy and create a look that involves Christmas lights. Thomas will love that :-).
