A Casual Tablescape For Four Using Lemons

Aug 11, 2020 | Maggie Lane Designs, Tablescapes

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I hope your week is going well.  I’ve been wanting to put this post out for awhile now so that I could share the good news…Thomas and I are the proud godparents to the most beautiful baby boy we have ever seen.  His name is Max and he is a bundle of sweetness with the most beautiful round face, white hair, and blue eyes.  I had everyone over to the house for a casual lunch so that Thomas and I could spend time with Max and chose these dishes because Max’s mom loves the shades of blue and turquoise.  I wanted something colorful yet casual.  It is not like me to go without a tablecloth but I thought these dishes needed to stand out on their own and they did just that!

These dishes were the perfect size for Philly steak sandwiches, fries, and Snickers, Oreo Cookie ice cream cake (ice cream cake recipe will be in my cookbook)!  I chose to make the sandwiches with rib eyes on the grill but it rained that morning which forced me to cook them using a cast iron skillet on the stove.  I sautéed onions, mushrooms, and peppers and layered it all on a sliced down the middle loaf of Italian bread!

I chose not to use a tablecloth but if I did, I could go a few ways with creating a fun, unique tablescape:

  1. Use a lemony, vine, floral tablecloth that mimics the plates
  2. Choose a solid color of emerald green, deep blue, or turquoise
  3. Choose a solid color of brown, brown/grey, or keep it bright with a yellow tablecloth
  4. Use a plaid tablecloth with these colors in it.  Add some earthly florals to make it more of a rustic look.
  5. Dress up the table with silk flowers, custom napkins, and napkin holders.
  6. Add drinking glasses or punch glasses for a delicious “foodie” table!
  7. Add a matching bowl in the middle of the table for pasta or salad.

I put this table together with purchases from Kroger, TJ Maxx, Dollar General, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart and the total cost was $75.00.  I already had the silverware from years ago.  Can you believe these wine glasses were only $1.00/piece from Dollar General.  I purchases these last year and have used them so many times.  I’m going back to purchase the blue wine glasses to go with my Pioneer Woman Table (HERE) and my Stars and Stripes table (HERE) I recently put together over the July 4th holiday.
I purchased this entire table because it goes well with other dinnerware and tablescape items that I have.  I can now make a table for 4, 6, or 8 and I love mixing and matching!

Night and Day 🙂

This is all about my casual tablescape for four but I had to include this video.  Our lunch was scheduled for noon and while I was cooking in the kitchen, I was keeping an eye on my little monsters.  I had to laugh to myself because, although Jake and Maggie are brother and sister, they have two drastic different personalities and this just shows you what I’m talking about.  Jake cracks me up…look at the way he is looking at Maggie!  LOL!  Enjoy!
