Doggie TMJ

Doggie TMJ

I was getting my hair done last week and my friend and hair dresser, who is a huge dog lover like I am, was telling me his dog was having problems with his mouth not closing properly when he ate.  He took him to the vet to find that he has Doggie TMJ!  I was so surprised by this and had to go home and do my research.  The Temporomandibular joint is the jaw joint, the hinged point in the jaw that is formed by two bones, named the temporal and mandible bones. The Temporomandibular Joint is also...

Is your dog’s urine killing your grass?

Is your dog’s urine killing your grass?

Have you ever experienced having a dog urinate on your grass and then finding a dead yellow spot in the grass the next day?  All of us pet owners have probably experienced that before which made me curious as to why this happens.  This happens because dog urine is rich in nitrogen, which is known to kill grass when concentrated amounts collect over time. The effects of dog urine on your lawn are similar to that of a nitrogen-rich liquid fertilizer. A small amount of fertilizer makes your yard...

Is doggie daycare right for your pet?

Is doggie daycare right for your pet?

We recently took Jake and Maggie to Misty Pines Dog Park and I asked to see their facilities.  Thomas and I have always agreed that we would never board our dogs and we stand by that.  It is either for you or not and we just feel more comfortable not boarding.  The facilities were clean and the animals looked very well taken care of which prompted me to ask about daycare. I like the fact that you can schedule a day for your pet to interact with other dogs and can be trained at the same time....

Snake Skin Boots from 6pm.com

Snake Skin Boots from 6pm.com

Every spring and fall I clean out my closet and move my clothes and shoes around and I love doing this.  I once had a friend tell me I was crazy but honestly, it does a few things for me.  It makes me feel like I accomplished something and keeps me organized.  When my closet gets messy, it drives me nuts.  It also allows me to see what needs thrown away or taken to Good Will for donations.  It also allows me to assess what needs sewn because we all know buttons fall off and clothes get torn....

Can dogs have identical twins?

Can dogs have identical twins?

I was sitting around the table at Thomas' family's house and we were talking about my blog when his aunt asked me if dogs can be born twins.  I said that I thought so and was going to research it.  Turns out that dogs can be born twins and here is how.     "Jake and Maggie playing while I was getting ready to run errands".  "When Jake gets tired of playing, he lays like this until Maggie gives up and walks away".  lol   "Jake and Maggie make the cutest sounds when they play".  "They have done...

My “September Sunflower” Table

My “September Sunflower” Table

I'm getting so excited...summer is almost over and fall (my favorite time of the year) is right around the corner!  I'm already thinking about how I'm going to decorate and when I found these sunflower dishes at Home Goods, I had to have them.  Well, I can't take all the credit...my aunt actually saw them for me and I scooped them all up into my cart!  I already had the pitcher and serving dish from a few years ago when I went shopping at the Home Goods in Kirkwood, Missouri.  I had used them...

What are your rights when losing a pet?

What are your rights when losing a pet?

I first started researching the emotional toll it takes on a pet when you give it up simply because you do not want it.  There have been people in my life who have adopted an animal because they thought it was a good idea at the time only to turn around and give it up because it wasn't "working out" for them.  From lizards, to birds, to cats to dogs, I've seen them come and go which broke my heart every time.  One minute they would arrive and the next they would be gone to a home this person...

Why foster a dog?

Why foster a dog?

First I have to say that I could never foster a dog....why?...because it would become mine.  I could never give the dog up.  I would end up with a whole house full of dogs so I admit it is not for me but there are a lot of amazing people out there who can.  Why foster a dog?...These are a few good reasons and if you are one of those people who can, I say thank you!  What does fostering mean?  It means that you take an animal into your home and give it all the love, attention, training, make...

Misty Pines Dog Park

Misty Pines Dog Park

I recently had a birthday and always joke that the entire month of August is my birthday.  Since that's the case, Thomas asked what I wanted to do this weekend and I said... spend the day with the dogs.  I suggested a fun-filled day of going to Misty Pines Dog Park, lunch at the Sewickley Hotel, and then home to relax before a dinner out at Pizzaiolo Primo downtown Pittsburgh for just the two of us.  Check out how much fun Jake and Maggie had at the park.   Misty Pines Dog Park is a great...
