Easter Egg Hunt With Jake And Maggie

Apr 12, 2020 | Pet Health, Pets

This is a re-post:  I absolutely love putting together games for Jake and Maggie and their Easter Egg Hunt did not disappoint.  They had a blast.  I want to re-create the game this year but it’s been raining so much.  I’m hoping the weather lifts and we can get outside with them this Easter.  If so, I’ll post the photos.  I have a bag of plastic Easter eggs waiting to be use.  I picked them up at Walmart last year.  The fun thing about this bag is that it has a golden egg inside which I use for a special treat which is going to be a Dental Chew by Get Naked.  Jake and Maggie love their dental chews.  I find them on Chewy.com with a 2-day delivery.  I set up the auto ship and never have to worry about running out of one of their favorite treats.

I’m hoping that Easter Sunday brought you joy and happiness.  It is a crazy time so I wanted to make it fun for the dogs and us.  It rained for a short period but nothing was going to stop me from holding our Easter Egg Hunt for the pups.  We worked in the yard and played Frisbee on Saturday with the dogs (pictures this week) and cooked a delicious Easter lunch on Sunday of brown sugar ham, creamed corn, hash brown cheesey bake, and angel food cake with fresh berries.  Enjoy and let us know what you did this weekend!!  We would love to know what delicious dishes you made for Easter!

I bought a bag of Stella and Chewy’s freeze dried treats and 2 packs of plastic eggs from Walmart.  I opened up the eggs, filled them with the treats and placed them opened in and around the yard.  The dogs immediately picked up on the game and really enjoyed their egg hunt!  There are so many fun games to play with your dog on Easter but I was a bit mad at myself that I did not get them Easter baskets!!!  I was keeping my trips to the store short with just getting the essentials but next year I promised Jake and Maggie I would make it up to them :-). They will get baskets and games!!!  I got big smiles and lots of tail wags for that :-).

We always celebrate the holidays with the pups and Easter is no different.  This year I’ll be shopping Walmart and the Dollar General for Easter Pet Baskets!  Forgive me.  I wanted to make those last week but with home projects going on, it’s been difficult to leisurely shop.

Here are some items you should never include in your basket:

1.  Chocolate
2.  Plastic straw/wire/strings/any padding that is a choke hazard
3.  Human food toxic to pets
4.  All candy
5.  Small toys your pet can choke on

Items to include in your basket for your pup and their owners:

1.  Easter themed pet toys in the appropriate size for your pet
2.  Blankets
3.  Pet shampoo and conditioner
4.  Grooming tools
5.  Special treats from your local pet store
7.  Matching leash and collar set
8.  Notepads and notecards with a pet theme

Or if you want to donate to a local shelter:

1.  Sponsor a shelter pet for his/her adoption
2.  Donate materials and goods to your local shelter
3.  Spend time volunteering at your local shelter

Some of the best time spent with your pet is just enjoying nature with new scents and smells, walking the trails, going on vacation with them, going for a ride in the car, and giving them lots of belly rubs.  We will be going to Tennessee the end of May and will be taking Jake and Maggie!  They absolutely love walking around town, especially Franklin and it’s a joy to see the smiles on their faces.

Fun Easter pictures of the hunt.
Emily brought Baby George to Innsbrook. It was also Emily’s birthday. We have not self distance from her. The rest of our family we FaceTime and sent photos back and forth.
The chef prepared our delicious brunch and it was place in our car with face masks and gloves.
Gus bossed George around and then George stoked all of Gus’s toys. Emily and I planted some lovely hanging baskets and pots while Tim napped. Then we all went for a hike. George did really well keeping up, but had to stop for a few rest breaks and of course a lot of smelling.

Thank you! The dogs really enjoyed their hunt. Their birthday is in June and I’m going to have more games for them to play! Your Easter sounds really nice. So glad you enjoyed it. I’m sure George is a big ball of positive and sunshine!!
