Nutter Butter Doggie Sandwiches

Jun 8, 2022 | Pets, Treat Recipes

This is a re-post:  Jake And Maggie turned 6 on June 8th and I made these Nutter Butter Doggie Sandwiches again for them.  I can’t believe my babies are 6 years old.  We were in Franklin, TN on their birthday having lunch at Harlinsdale Farm but I promised them that when we came home, mom would make them a treat!

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Today is Jake and Maggie’s 5th birthday!!!  Instead of making them a cake, I made these Nutter Butter Doggie Sandwiches and they loved them!  With healthy doggie approved peanut butter from BarkBistro, (see my doggie pancakes I made) whole wheat flour, local honey, fresh egg, vegetable oil, baking soda, and vanilla, these treats were a perfect treat to celebrate the pups birthday!
NOTE:  When giving your dog peanut butter, make sure it is NOT sugar free!  Sugar free contains Xylitol with is extremely toxic to dogs.

Normally I have a birthday party at home for Jake and Maggie but we decided to take them to Asheville, NC with us at the end of the month.  They were an absolute joy to bring with us on our last trip to Plymouth, Massachusetts (see our trip) and considering Asheville is super dog friendly, we decided why not let them enjoy another travel experience with us.  I can’t wait to show you all the photos from our trip and the fun Jake and Maggie had.
Nutter Butter Doggie Sandwiches
This recipe is very easy to make and only takes 20 minutes at 350 degrees to bake.  I used a metal flower cookie cutter that I picked up at Walmart to create a cute design.  The ingredients were mixed together, rolled out with a rolling pin, and baked until golden brown.  I sprayed my cookie sheet pan with coconut oil so that nothing would stick.  This recipe made 36 cookies.

I normally post dog treat recipes on Fridays but today is special because Jake And Maggie TURN 5 today!!!!!!!  I can’t believe it’s been 5 years they have been with us!  Thank you all for jumping on this journey with us.  If you have any ideas for treats or recipes you would like me to make for you and your fur baby, comment below!

Author: Two Adorable Labs

Equipment

  • 1 Spoon
  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 cookie sheet pan
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix egg, peanut butter, vegetable oil, vanilla, honey, together first. Add whole wheat, and baking soda and mix well.
  • Throw a small handful of whole wheat flour on the table for rolling as if you were making a pie. You can use white flour but whole wheat is better for dogs.
  • Roll dough into a ball and then pat down with your hand.
  • Roll out approximately 1/4 inch thick and cut with your preferred cookie cutter.
  • Spray cookie sheet with coconut oil, place cut cookies on pan and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let cool. Once cool, start to create our sandwiches by adding peanut butter between two cookies.
  • Cookies can be kept in an airtight container for 4 days.

Notes

When using peanut butter, make sure it is sugar free.  Regular peanut butter is harmful to your pet.
I added whole wheat flour to my rolling pin so this is why you see flour baked into these cookies.
Can make as single cookies or fill with peanut butter, bananas, or strawberries for the middle.
