Grounds and Hounds Coffee
I am so excited to share this post with you!! My sister sent me a link one night to a company called Grounds and Hounds Coffee. The title was interesting but I fell in love with the story not to mention the coffee is delicious. At Grounds and Hounds Coffee Co, they believe that great coffee can fuel a greater purpose. Through the sale of their fair trade and organic, specialty coffees, they support rescue initiatives and organizations providing a second chance for pups in need of a...
The Grommet
I was scouring Pinterest like I do every night and came across a "pin" showing all of these neat gadgets for pets. I clicked on it and it took me to a website called The Grommet. You can find everything on their site from children's clothes to home goods to tech gadgets. Did you know they even have a "fish burial pod"?????? I have never seen such a thing until I watched an episode of Chrisley Knows Best where they accidentally killed their granddaughter's fish by feeding it to much. They...
Dogs and Raccoons
In my last post on Dogs and Armadillos, I promised I would talk about how to prevent raccoons on your property and what to do should your dog decide to go after one. Here is something I did not know...raccoons will go after a cat to kill it just for sport. A raccoon will fight a dog to let it die slowly. The dog almost always loses the battle with a raccoon. "I buy expensive toys and Nylabones for the dogs but what do they love better...an old towel tied in a knot!" "Then they wore...
Is your dog left pawed or right pawed?
Every day I work with Jake and Maggie and we play "tricks" which involves them getting in my face at the exact time every day and me saying..."Do you want to play tricks?" They immediately run to the mudroom so I can pull out the treats and then we go through every trick and command that they know. One of the things that I've noticed from day one is that when I taught them "give me paw", Maggie has always given me her left paw and Jake has always given me his right. So it got me thinking...
Two Adorable Labs Celebrating Independence Day
This is a re-post and update: Last year we celebrated July 4th with family. We had a blast celebrating it with the pups and family. It was a great day surrounded by the people we love. We cooked on the grill...well, actually our cousin cooked for us on the grill (because he is an awesome grill master) and we enjoyed steak, shrimp skewers, green beans, and salad. I also made my mother's macaroni salad and a side of sautéed portobello mushrooms and onions for the steak. What does July...
Dogs and Armadillos
I was talking to a friend who was telling me about three armadillos and a raccoon she found on her property and how curious her dog was about them. This got us thinking about what would happen to her dog should the armadillos and raccoon (more about raccoons in a later blog) go into attack mode. These are wild animals and their first instinct would be to defend themselves and their territory. "Yep, it's just your sock". "What?" "You mad at me?" "Maggie, what is in your mouth?" "This...
Jake passed his Canine Good Citizens Test
Jake passed his Canine Good Citizen test!!!! Yeahhhh!!! Thomas and I are very proud of him. It was so hot on Saturday for Jake but he powered through. I brought his travel bowl and made sure he had fresh water to drink. As you can see by the look on his face, he was exhausted when he got home. I was able to snap a photo before he laid his head down and fell asleep for almost an hour. Jake has such a funny personality but is also very stubborn. When he decides to lay down, there is no...
How to clean your pet’s bedding, toys, and leashes
"Jake was so tired after his bath". "He couldn't wait to get on the couch for his nap". If your like me, I clean everything pertaining to the dogs, i.e., leashes, bowls, bowls, toys, etc. I've taken shortcuts before and literally used wet wipes to wipe down the leashes (only because I knew they wouldn't chew on them) and I've thrown all soft toys and bedding in the washer. When we had Bear, he developed skin allergies towards the end of his life and our vet, Dr. P. recommended I use TIDE...

When is the best time to feed your dog?
In the past when I had my last three, Bear, Bella, and Lady, I worked full time but always made sure they ate in the morning at 6:00 am and then when I got home at 5:30 pm. Our schedule was that I would let them out first thing when we got up, fed them as soon a they came in, and let them out again before I left in the morning and then when I got home, I would let them out and then feed them dinner. This worked well because I had them on a schedule and dogs love schedules. Sometimes they...
