Mini Pup Pumpkin Pies

Oct 10, 2023 | Pets, Treat Recipes

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Are these Mini Pup Pumpkin Pies not the cutest homemade dog treats you have ever seen?  Made with oats, eggs, vanilla, 100% Pumpkin Puree and organic plain low fat yogurt, your pup will love them.  These treats are “Lab Tested, Doggie Approved” and Jake and Maggie loved them.  Well, Maggie devoured hers immediately and Jake went in slowly unsure of what it was and then realized he “REALLY LIKED THEM”!

How To Make Mini Pup Pumpkin Pies

I first blended oats with free range eggs from Vital Farms together in a bowl.  I added some water and vanilla just to help the oats soften a bit.  The egg, water, and vanilla help the oats to bind together.

Second, I wiped a 12 count mini cupcake pan with coconut oil by taking a Scott Towel and dipping the tip into the coconut oil jar and rubbing it inside the cups.  This makes the pies slide out very easily.

I then scooped out a heaping tablespoon size amount into the cups and smashed the oats down into the pan creating a crust like cup for the pumpkin filling.

In a separate bowl, I combined the pumpkin (always used 100% pumpkin pie puree)  and vanilla extract and blended the two.  A little bit of vanilla won’t hurt your pup.

Then it was time to fill the cups, top with some cinnamon and baked at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Yes, cinnamon is healthy for your pup.

Once the pumpkin pies were cool, I topped with some yogurt and let Jake and Maggie enjoy their homemade treats!

Should you not have vanilla to add to the oats, you can add some honey to help bind the oats together.  Honey is safe for dogs in small quantities.

Low Fat Greek Yogurt – Whip Cream Topping – Use low fat Greek Yogurt as a topping for the dog treats. You can use the Greek Yogurt alone or add in a bit of cornstarch and milk to help make it stiffer.

Low fat or 2% milk – Whip Cream Topping – helps to mix the yogurt and cornstarch. You’ll add this in a teaspoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.

Pumpkin Pie Whipped Cream Topping:

Hint: You can use the Greek Yogurt by itself a safe whipped cream for your pumpkin pies. If you prefer a thicker whipped cream do the following:

Mix ½ cup Greek Yogurt, slowly add cornstarch and low-fat milk a teaspoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.

It’s almost Halloween at the Domitrovich house and we are looking forward to telling you all about our adventures this month!  It’s been a fun ride so far.  We have more recipes coming up plus a fun post on cats that we can’t wait to share.  Stay tuned!  Xoxo, Jake and Maggie!

P.S.  These treats are a larger size treat so you might consider cutting them in halves or quarters to feed to your pup.  A sudden change in treats or food can give your dog diarrhea and pumpkin can do that.
