Apple and Zucchini Doggie Hors d’oeuvres

Nov 18, 2021 | Pets, Treat Recipes

This is a re-post:  Are you cooking at home for your family?  Do you have a loving fur baby that will be celebrating with you and your family?  Make them these hors d’oeuvres so they can enjoy eating with you.  Jake And Maggie love apples and zucchini so what better way to use up both in one treat!

Happy “Friday Treats Friday” everyone!  Apple and Zucchini Doggie Hors d’oeuvres on the blog today!!!  With Thanksgiving next week, I was thinking of a fun doggie treat for the pups!  My sister hosts Thanksgiving at her house and always makes a fabulous meal for us but when we come home, I want Jake and Maggie to enjoy their dinner just as much as we enjoy ours.  I had every intention of creating a treat with more ingredients but when the holidays arrive, we want something fast and easy to make and I know this will help with that!  Just make sure you remember to take the toothpick out of the treat before giving it to your dog!

This is so simple that I almost didn’t post it for fear that you would want something a bit more substantial but when Jake and Maggie devoured these hors d’oeuvres, I knew I had to take more photos and create a post.  I’ve been asked many times if dogs can eat zucchini and the answer is yes…but be careful.  One Caution With Zucchini – Usually, zucchini is a non-toxic food that you can safely give your dog in moderation.  But, in some cases, zucchini can be extremely bitter and possibly toxic. That’s due to the cucurbitacins, a class of biochemicals found in plants.  See my post Frozen Banana Bites that include frozen bananas and zucchini for more information.

The holidays are a wonderful time of year and even more special when you have a pet to celebrate with.  Jake and Maggie are always with me helping me wrap presents, bake, decorate, so why wouldn’t I want to spoil them rotten.  Chances are you will already have these two ingredients in your refrigerator from making another recipe so all you have to do is slice an apple and a zucchini, layer the two together and stick with a decorative toothpick.  These are so pretty on the table but make sure your quests know that they are for the doggies!  All of the doggie recipes I make are people friendly but I don’t think noshing on a raw zucchini sounds that appetizing especially when so many other delicious dishes are there to enjoy!
