Mother’s Day Table

May 2, 2023 | Maggie Lane Designs, Mother's Day, Tablescapes

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I’m hosting Mother’s Day dinner this year and want you to see my simple but elegant table I put together.  Normally I add a tablecloth but thought the white china and gold silverware looked rich against the wood table.  Mr. TAL and I bought this table at Ethan Allen several years ago and it has hosted many Christmas dinners where I’ve covered it up with a festival tablecloth and decor. This year I’ll surprise everyone and keep it simple lol!

My menu will consist of baked tilapia stuffed with crab meat.  See my famous crab cake recipe HERE.  It’s a toss up between baked asparagus or Brussel sprouts as a side and smashed crispy Yukon Gold potatoes or fettuccini Alfredo.  What do you think?  What would you pick?  I am for sure setting up a fun, sugary sweet, and decadent ice cream sundae bar and found the cutest sundae dishes from Amazon.  My sister is bringing a big salad and I’ll be making two cakes from Dolly Parton’s baking kit.  I can’t wait to show you all the photos :-).   Oh and I’m making a wine spritzer that my family loves!  Of course there will be water, coffee, and tea!

Where I got my table decor:

China and silverware were a gift from my parents.  I think it’s so important to have a pattern that can be displayed in different ways with different colors if you entertain a lot like I do.  This time I wanted everything to match but wouldn’t it be striking to have a rich pink, hunter green, or fiery gold color as the accent!

Silk florals are from JoAnn Fabrics which I picked out and made myself.  I chose shades of green, burgundy pink, cream, and white to match my china.  I re-used foam squares from another craft project and inserted each stem starting with the large burgundy flowers.  I worked my way around the vase spreading out each spray from medium to small inserting fillers as I went along.  I used a layering technique with the larger flowers higher in the arrangement with smaller flowers on a lower scale in an uneven pattern.  I think gold feathers would have looked very pretty in these arrangements but I didn’t think of it until after I had made them.

Flower vases are from JoAnn Fabrics which are flecked in gold similar to mercury glass.  I hit a 60% off sale and got them for a great price.

White cloth napkins were purchased years ago from Walmart.

Wine glasses were from Home Goods.

Ways to make your table special:

Find dishes that work all year round

Add white to your table like crisp white napkins

Create a soft look buy using white roses in small vases and surround them with votive candles

Don’t eat at your usual time.  Have brunch at 10:00 am or dinner as the sun sets.

Match your silverware and wine glasses like I did here using gold.

Create a “Build Your Own”!  For example:  burger station, pasta station, pizza station, sweets and treats, etc.

Create a desert in honor of your mother.

Jake And Maggie will be wearing new bows that I bought from NautyPaws.com and will be so excited to give their grandma her Mother’s Day gift.  I hope you enjoyed my table.  There are enough dishes at each setting to get seconds even thirds :-).  I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures to post.
